PARTIAL ECLIPSE OF THE SUN

(As seen in some parts of Europe on 12th October 1996.)

Remember - Never look directly at the Sun. You will damage your eyes or blind yourself.

This partial eclipse was viewed by the only 100% safe way to view the Sun, and that is indirectly.

My observation utilised a minimum of materials. On the day of the partial eclipse it was overcast with low cloud. Observation was sporadic and deteriorated as the time of the eclipse approached (so I nipped off to the Westford Inn for a few beers).

However a break in the cloud afforded me the opportunity to take a few pictures, one of which is shown below.

I used a battered second hand set of binoculars attached to my camera tripod. The image was projected onto my observations notebook.

All pretty basic but I did manage to catch some of the action.
